Forecast Discussion:
This Friday morning, there are a few weather features to watch as we head into the weekend. First, the disturbance that moved through the state yesterday is shifting eastward through New Mexico this morning, with an area of high pressure starting to build over Arizona. Second, we are tracking two weather disturbances, with one about 850 miles off the coast of Southern California and another just south of the Aleutian Islands.
As the ridge of high pressure builds over the region today and tomorrow, expect afternoon high temperatures to rise back into the triple digits. At the same time, both disturbances noted above will slowly move eastward and finally through the state Monday into Tuesday. As these disturbances slowly approach the region, expect breezes of 15-20mph each afternoon, with the strongest breezes of 20-30mph on Monday as the systems move through.
Also of note, we are not expecting any rain out of these systems; however, they will help to cool afternoon high temperatures a few degrees heading into the first part of next week.
Regarding air quality, ozone is forecast to be in the upper Moderate AQI category through the forecast period as the afternoon breezes and increased winds slightly above the surface will help to keep values lower. PM-10 (dust) is forecast to remain in the Good AQI category; however on Monday we could see some pockets of blowing dust and haze with the stronger winds.
Have a great weekend!
